City Workers
I have talked with hundreds of people so far in this campaign, and whenever I have a deep conversation about a big City issue I invariably end up hearing about the need for quality City staff. To my ear, this issue calls out for review of the two things that drive hiring and retention everywhere: compensation and working conditions. We need to be competitive with surrounding towns and, where we can, with the private sector. We need to make sure benefits are attractive. And, we need to ensure front-line City workers are happy in their work, respected by the elected leadership, and fairly treated by supervisors.
